Durham university library strategy

Library Surveys.

The Library Survey 2015.

During much of Michaelmas Term 2015, Durham University Library consulted Durham University students and staff by means of a sophisticated and rigorously tested, web-based survey instrument (LibQUAL+®), produced in tandem with the Association of Research Libraries.

The Library Survey 2015 was designed to enable systematic assessment and measurement of Durham University Library's service quality. The opinions of our customers really matter to us - the results of this survey feed into future policy and planning for the Library.

Following analysis of results and comments from the Library Survey, key findings and recommendations arising from the survey have been communicated to students and staff via a range of communication channels throughout 2016, as results help shape future developments across the University Library.

Previous Surveys.

Durham University Library conducted its first ever full-scale Library Survey during 2013 (via LibQUAL+®), to consult our customers and elicit their feedback in order to help direct our policy and planning for the Library.

Prior to that, the University Library had conducted a short online survey in 2008 among Durham University staff and students on strategic directions for the Library. Previously, it had conducted a survey of customer satisfaction with its resources, services, and facilities over a period of years. That survey sought opinions on the importance of, and satisfaction with, 16 aspects of Library provision, and it was based on a questionnaire devised by SCONUL .

Reports on findings from all these surveys are available below.

Strategy.

To support the pursuit of research, scholarship, and learning in the context of the University's strategic aims by providing information resources and associated services to the University and wider community.

In addition to values shared with the University as a whole, the Library will:

Elicit and respond to stakeholder needs. Be innovative and enterprising in providing information resources and services. Practise exemplary standards of stewardship over resources of enduring research and cultural value for Durham University. Embrace a consultative and collaborative approach with regional, national, and international partners. Strive for best practice in services to and accessibility for customers, and in accountability to stakeholders.
